After it was allegedly discovered that his luggage contained evidence of illegal substances, an Australian low-cost airliner’s captain was stood down.
On May 23, 2023, a routine staff check at Melbourne Airport revealed the drug when an international pilot was returning from Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS).
The Australian Federal Police (AFP), who was informed by the airport police, told the media site Skynews Australia that its inquiries were completed and the pilot was not charged.
“The AFP investigated a report in Melbourne in May in relation to alleged drug possession at the airport,” an AFP spokesperson said in a statement.
“No criminal offenses were identified and the AFP considers the matter closed,” the spokesperson added.
Jetstar is looking into the matter on its own. An examination of the pilot’s phone also turned up information relating to drugs, according to an unnamed individual involved with the event who spoke to several Australian media outlets. It is unclear what the exact content was.
