An Airbus A320-200 operated by Ural Airlines paralyzed Irkutsk Airport (IKT) for 12 hours after the aircraft’s brakes malfunctioned during landing.
When the incident happened, the airplane with the registration RA-73830 was flying the U62942 route between Dushanbe (DYU) and IKT.
According to a report by TASS, the aircraft’s pneumatics failed during the landing.
According to RBK, which cited an airport representative, all four tires on the main landing gear of the airplane blew out as well during the landing.
The aircraft’s brake pressure indicator indicated the brakes were engaged at a height of 450 meters, according to the 33Telegram channel Aviatorschina, which frequently posts insider information from Russia’s aviation industry (1476 feet).
The pilots carried out different diagnostic techniques, such as repeatedly turning the brakes on and off.
Flightradar24 data shows that the plane touched down at 3:30 UTC (15:30 IRKT).
The airport’s CCTV footage, which was later released by the Sliva Irkutsk Telegram channel, showed smoke and sparks shooting out of the landing gear as the plane made its approach.
TASS claims there were 77 passengers and personnel on board, whereas RBK claims there were 70 passengers and five crew members.
According to both sources, who cited airport authorities, no one was hurt in the event.
IKT started rerouting flights after the landing, including to Ulan-Ude (UDD) and Krasnoyarsk (KIA).
The following flight did not arrive at IKT until the morning of November 3, according to data from Flightradar24.
The A320’s malfunction reportedly prevented the airport’s runway from being used for 12 hours until it was finally taken out.
According to local news source IrCity.ru, 14 flights were diverted to IKT as a result of the incident. The website also provided a different story of how many passengers were on board at the time of the incident, citing airport officials who said that 83 passengers and six crew members were on board.
