On June 21, 2023, an American Airlines flight attendant passed away while performing her duties on a flight from Venice’s Marco Polo Airport (VCE) to Philadelphia International Airport (PHL).
The incident occurred early in the flight, as the Boeing 787-8 with the registration code N883BM was flying over France.
At this point in the flight, veteran flight attendant Carol Wright passed out, and her fellow passengers tried to perform CPR on her. The decision to declare an emergency and divert to Dublin Airport (DUB) was made by the pilots of the flight.
A Dublin aviation journalist recorded the landing at DUB airport, and it can be seen that airport fire personnel and paramedics met the airplane and swiftly transported Wright to a nearby hospital.

Sadly, despite her colleagues’ quick intervention, Wright did not survive.
An internal memo from American Airlines was revealed as a memorial by aviation expert @xJonNYC on Twitter:
“It is with great sadness that we share the sudden passing of Philadelphia-based Flight Attendant and Purser Carol Wright while working a flight this morning. She is remembered as a pleasure to support and a joy to work alongside,” the airline said.
