British Airways (BA), the national airline of the UK, and Qatar Airways have announced the expansion of their relationship, adding 42 new nations to their existing network. As a result, 185 locations in more than 60 countries are now serviced by the two airlines together.
Italy, Norway, Singapore, Sweden, and the Maldives are among the new nations. Additionally, thanks to the collaboration, air travelers will have better access to direct and connecting flights between a number of locations in Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Oceania.
“The expansion will enable seamless connecting journeys on single tickets through Doha and London,” British Airways said in a statement dated September 26, 2022. “The complementary networks uniquely access dozens of countries that no other alliance or joint business provides. The partnership also ensures access to more cities around the world than ever before, continuing to support global trade, tourism, investment, and cultural connection.”
Shared loyalty schemes are also part of the expanding cooperation. For instance, customers will be able to link their accounts with British Airways Executive Club and Qatar Airways Privilege Club in order to transfer Avios, the fictitious frequent flyer currency, between the two airlines. Passengers on British Airways and Qatar will be able to combine their accounts in order to redeem incentives provided by each program, BA noted.
“The collaboration also offers access to both airline’s exclusive lounges, and cabins to suit all budgets and needs, including British Airways’ new Club Suite and Qatar Airways’ award-winning Qsuite,” the airline explained.
