At Mexico City International Airport (MEX), a Boeing 737 operated by Aeromexico and a Boeing 757 operated by Delta Air Lines collided, resulting in damage to both planes.
On April 17, 2023, the two airplanes collided as they were taxiing. The Aeromexico Boeing 737-800 NextGeneration (NG), registered as XA-AMO, was about to take off for Ciudad Juarez International Airport (CJS), carrying flight AM117, and the Delta Air Lines Boeing 757-200, registered as N694DL, was getting ready to depart for New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).
The airport said in a statement that the collision happened between taxiways B and D and that the Aeromexico Boeing 737’s wingtip hit the Delta Air Lines Boeing 757’s horizontal stabilizer.
While no injuries were reported the airport said that “the corresponding authorities began an investigation to determine the causes”.
Meanwhile, the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (Agencia Federal de Aviación Civil, AFAC), stated that it had “initiated investigations to determine responsibility in the incident that occurred today between the Boeing 757 […] and a Boeing 737 […] during taxiing to the runway in use”.
Since the incident, both planes have stayed on the ground. Another Aeromexico Boeing 737-800 NG with the registration XA-AMC was used to fly Flight AM117 from MEX to CJS.
