Jordan will join Ethiopian Airlines’ existing Middle East network in September, making it the ninth nation the airline serves in the region.
From the airline’s hub in Addis Abeba (ADD) to Queen Alia International (AMM) in Amman, three flights per week will start on September 19. Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 154 seats will operate the 2,544 km (1,374 nm) route.
Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew said: “With the commencement of our new flight to Amman, passengers departing from/to the middle east can enjoy the extensive Ethiopian network worldwide with convenient connectivity and smooth transfer at Addis Ababa. Our new flight will also further strengthen the economic ties between Ethiopia and Jordan.”
The airline had planned to establish service to Amman in July 2019, but the launch was initially postponed until October before it was completely canceled. After that, it announced that flights would resume in August in July 2021. The launch, however, never happened.
Once the route starts, Ethiopian Airlines will be the only airline to operate nonstop service between Ethiopia and Jordan, with Amman being its 11th Middle Eastern destination.
The market between Addis Abeba and Amman was last serviced in June 2012 by bmi British Midland, which flew from London Heathrow (LHR) using the routing LHR-AMM-ADD-AMM-LHR.
On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, Ethiopian Airlines will operate flights between Addis Abeba and Amman, leaving from the Ethiopian capital at 10.30 p.m. and landing in Amman at 2.05 a.m. the next day. On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, the return service runs, leaving AMM at 3.05 a.m. and arriving in ADD at 6.44 a.m.
The airline now flies to 10 locations in the Middle East, including Bahrain (BAH), Beirut (BEY), Dammam (DMM), Doha (DOH), Dubai (DXB), Jeddah (JED), Kuwait (KWI), Muscat (MCT), Riyadh (RUH), and Tel Aviv, according to data given by OAG Schedules Analyser (TLV).
Overall, the carrier is supplying 401,525 seats across its entire network this week (w/c Aug. 29, 2022) on routes departing from ADD and traveling to 98 different international locations. This contrasts with 408,844 seats and 98 destinations from ADD during the same week three years prior.
Ethiopian Airlines has also stated that starting on October 30th, its present 3X-weekly service from Manchester (MAN) will rise to 4X-weekly. Furthermore, MAN service will run via Geneva (GVA), enabling the airline to transport customers in this sector. At GVA, passengers flying from MAN to ADD will stay aboard the airplane.
