On Sunday night at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, a man opened the emergency exit of a Sun Country Airlines plane and ran across the airfield in a last-ditch attempt to elude capture, according to local authorities.
Police were waiting at the gate to take the man into custody after discovering he was on the flight from Orlando, which had just landed in Minneapolis.
However, the 44-year-old suspect, who was seated in an overwing emergency exit row, opened the exit, jumped out onto the wing, and escaped into the darkness of the runway while other passengers were still disembarking.
Around 45 minutes later, the man was reportedly discovered by airport staff hiding under a catering truck. He was then turned over to the police. In addition, he was detained for disobeying a no-contact order.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Sun Country said: “We take these incidents very seriously, and the crew called airport police who responded quickly.”
“Fortunately, passengers and crew are fine.”
