In order to connect Italy, Asia, and India, ITA Airways will add new destinations to its intercontinental network.

The state-owned flag carrier of Italy plans to add additional regular passenger flights to the Asian market. In its most recent network update, published on September 6, 2022, ITA stated that beginning in early November 2022, it will begin operating flights between its hub at Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) in Italy and Haneda Airport (HND) in Tokyo.

Then, starting in the early weeks of December, Alitalia’s replacement plans to begin operating direct flights between Rome and the Maldives (MLE).

Additionally, the airline intends to begin regular passenger service to India’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL).

Flights to the new location will leave from Fiumicino Airport three times per week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, according to the Italian airline. Return flights, meanwhile, will run on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday.

“With its new direct flight from Rome Fiumicino to New Delhi, ITA Airways is pursuing continuing the relentless work to increase intercontinental destinations with a particular focus on both business and leisure customers,” ITA Airways said in the update.

“Thanks to the direct flight and favorable schedule, the Company strengthens the feeder and connectivity activities by intercepting more and more overseas connections to different international markets, in particular the flows between India-Germany, India-Spain, India-France, India-North America (and vice versa) that will be served entirely by ITA Airways through carefully planned connections,” the carrier added.

The Airbus A330-200 wide-body fleet of ITA Airways will fly the new direct routes. According to Planespotters.com, the airline currently has eight of the type in its fleet.

Nine direct routes connect Rome and Buenos Aires (BAI), Sao Paulo (GRU), New York (JFK), Boston (BOS), Miami (MIA), and Los Angeles on the airline’s international network (LAX).
