On August 7, 2023, at 3:22 PM local time (UTC -8), the Boeing 747-400F, flight number N401KZ, was making a landing at Ningbo Lishe International Airport (NGB), China, when it veered off the runway and got trapped in the grass.
According to flightradar24.com’s Meteorological Aerodrome Report (METAR), the wind direction varied between 210 to 320 degrees and was blowing at a speed of 0.2 meters per second at 3:00 PM local time (UTC -8). Additionally, there were recent rain showers at the airport along with mild thunderstorms and rain.
There had been recent thunderstorms, according to a METAR reading obtained an hour later, and it is not anticipated that the weather will change dramatically in the next hours.
Several flights, including those operated by China Eastern Airlines, Spring Airlines, and Hainan Airlines, had diverted from landing at NGB before the aircraft skidded off the runway. Later in the day, numerous other flights were canceled, according to flightradar24.com data.
