Due to a growing trend among some crew members to dress casually, Pakistan International Airlines has ordered its flight attendants to wear undergarments even when they are out of uniform during layovers.
This is because the airline believes that this trend is creating a “poor impression of the airline.”
In a recent internal memo, which was widely covered by local media, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) advised crew members to dress more formally, even when they were not on duty, and to always wear underwear.
“It has been observed with great concern that a few cabin crew tend to dress casually while traveling intercity, staying in hotels and visiting various suffices,” the airline’s general manager of flight services Aamir Bashir told flight attendants in the memo.
“Such dressing leaves a poor impression on the viewer and portrays a negative image of not only the individual but also of the organization,” Bahir continued.
In the message, it was emphasized that flight attendants should “dress properly,” especially by donning “proper undergarments.” Male and female attire “should be in conformity with our cultural and national morals,” Bashir said in his conclusion.
In 2019, Bashir gave certain flight attendants a warning that if they didn’t reduce weight, the airline would fire them. According to the airline, some staff members must shed up to 30 lbs in just six months or risk being grounded or even fired.
The same year, PIA warned its flight attendants against sharing images and videos of its aircraft on social media since such content could “harm the reputation” of the airline due to images showing cracked seats and other interior damage.
