According to a Dutch daily NOS article, Qatar Airways pilots “raise the alarm for safety” after disclosing concerns with fatigue and a fear-based culture among the flight crew.
Five Qatar Airways pilots were found by NOS after they gained access to private Facebook groups and volunteered to share their stories.
The pilots that were spoken with, who requested anonymity, admitted that they frequently fall asleep during flights because of “extreme flight schedules. They added that the Doha-based carrier is “regularly pushing boundaries when making the rosters”.
“It’s not a deep sleep, but you keep falling off for 10 seconds. It feels like you’re drunk,” one Qatar Airways pilot said.
Also mentioned by the pilots was their hesitation to submit fatigue reports due to their concern over receiving warning letters, which could prevent them from receiving promotions.
On Twitter, the European Cockpit Association highlighted that this is “another alarming non-news”.
CrewRoom has asked Qatar Airways for comment.
