Stephanie Tully has been named the next CEO of Australia’s Qantas Group’s low-cost airline, Jetstar.

The information comes after the company’s statement in June 2022 that Gareth Evans, Jetstar’s departing CEO, will leave his position by the end of the year.

Tully began working for Qantas in 2004 and has had positions in operations, business, marketing, and customer loyalty. Her final position at Qantas before being named CEO of Jetstar was group executive and chief customer officer, which she accepted in August 2019.

Markus Svensson will be promoted to the position of chief customer officer and join the Group Executive Committee, reporting to the Group CEO, as a result of Tully’s appointment, according to Qantas.

As head of the strategy, Svensson joined the Qantas Group in 2011. He presently serves as Qantas International and Domestic’s executive manager of the network, revenue management, and alliances. Svensson was once the UK, Europe, and Middle East region’s general manager for Qantas.

In addition, according to Qantas, Tully and Svensson will start settling into their new positions soon with thorough handoffs made possible by the internal succession, before a formal handover occurs in November 2022.

“These appointments come at an important time for us. The team is working incredibly hard to overcome challenges facing the whole industry as it gets back on its feet, and the data shows we’re almost there,” Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce said in a statement.

Joyce added: “Managing this kind of executive renewal internally means we keep our momentum and can leverage a huge amount of corporate knowledge, including through the transition.”
