One of the passengers on a Turkish Airlines flight was discovered dead inside one of the Boeing 737-MAX 8’s bathrooms, forcing a flight to be diverted to Houari Boumediene International Airport (ALG) in Algiers.
On July 25, 2023, flight TK 619 was traveling from Istanbul Airport (IST) to Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK).
Immediately after takeoff, a passenger locked himself in the restroom.
After the man had been inside the restroom for a while, flight attendants started to knock on the door. The man appeared to have committed suicide when flight staff opened the bathroom door after receiving no response.
Onboard medical personnel made unsuccessful attempts to revive the man by performing first aid.
ALG Airport received the instant flight diversion. The airplane continued to Marrakech after the body was turned over to Algerian police, arriving 41 minutes later than expected.
